I come from a small place…
I grew up in a small town in South Texas, between Corpus Christi and San Antonio called Tuleta. I graduated from Pettus High School in 1986 and studied art at Bee County College(now Coastal Bend College) in Beeville, Texas. I moved to Denton, Texas in 1988 to attend the University of North Texas and graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Painting and Drawing.
While at the University of North Texas I studied painting under Vernon Fisher and Hung Liu. Both were influential in my style along with Bee County College instructors, Waverly Lewis, Ken Rosier, and Jayne Duryea.
For over 30 years I have worked in educational technology. While attending UNT I got a job at the Texas Center for Educational Technology where they conducted research in using technology in education. I was pretty successful there and became a Project Specialist before going to the University of Texas at Arlington as the Technology Coordinator in the Field-Based Teacher Education Program in the College of Education. I have worked as Director of Technology in the Decatur Independent School District since 1996. My wife, Sandra, and I have raised two wonderfully creative children, Grace and Sam, who both graduated from Decatur High School and are attending universities where both are working on degrees in creative fields.
I am very happy to get back to art after a very long break while having a career and raising a family. Sandra and I have been able to build a beautiful new home with a barn with studio space which provides a great amount of room to work.
